IMPLANT SUPPORTED DENTURES

You must have heard about dentures and you must have heard about implants. But have you heard about something knows as Implant Supported Dentures? This can be understood as a combination of both implant and denture and is a very effective treatment modality for patients who need a completely new set of teeth. We had a patient in the clinic who was unable to chew his food properly as his previous caps and restorations were breaking off one after the other probably due to the usage of older techniques.

Once we realised that most of his remaining teeth and restorations were severely damaged, we had a discussion with him and extracted all his teeth. After the extractions and proper healing, we gave the patient Implant Supported Dentures. These dentures were fixed inside his mouth with the help of implants. Due to the implant placement, the dentures were very well fixed in the gums of the patient. The patient felt very comfortable and confident wearing the Implant supported denture. He could now effortlessly eat all his favourite food while chewing it properly and enjoy his golden years gracefully without worrying that his denture may hurt him, get loose or come out. Even the cleaning of the denture was as easy as that of normal teeth. The biggest advantage of an Implant supported denture over a normal denture is that the implant is fixed to the gums hence offering greater support and stability to the denture. While this may appear as a very small thing, but the confidence that it builds in the denture wearer can be noticed remarkably. So before you think of going ahead with a regular denture, think about the various ways you can benefit if you level just one step up, and choose an Implant Supported Denture instead.

Ceramic Veeners

The following patient sent a picture of hers to the clinic before actually visiting with her complaint. The picture was a selfie taken on a trip with her family. She had clicked many such selfies and while looking upon them later, she realised that she was not satisfied with her smile at all. One of her relatives had also pointed out that her teeth didn’t look that good and needed to be aligned better.

This really hurt her a lot and got her all conscious about her looks and her smile. She asked us what the options were to straighten her crooked teeth and enhance her smile. We called her for a consultation and systematically took a number of dental and facial photographs to plan her case. We also took a full mouth digital scan for her. After this, we actually showed her the final results that our treatment will have on her smile, on the computer via digital simulation technique, and made sure that she likes it. Once she got an idea of what the results will look like, we planned her entire treatment digitally and opted ‘Ceramic Veneers’ for her front six teeth. It would’ve taken at least 6-8 months to align her teeth using braces or aligners. As she wanted to get her treatment done within one month due to her upcoming marriage, ceramic veneers was the most suitable option for aligning her teeth in this short span of time. We just roughened her teeth surface slightly and cemented the customized veneers prepared for her. Unlike other caps or crown procedures, she was not required to go through a single root canal. The treatment was done and the patient was ecstatic with the results. Her smile looked beautiful and the chosen teeth shade made her teeth look as natural as it could get. They had a natural whiteness to them and looked well aligned. She immediately gained her lost confidence back and thus experienced a positive change in her overall personality as well. Ceramic veneers are a long lasting alternative for enhancing your smile in a short span of time, without any side effects (sensitivity issues, pain etc). If you are also unsatisfied with how your smile looks in your selfies, do give it a shot to see how it can look with the help of our Digital Simulation technique and rest is upon you to decide.

Bridal Smile Makeover

Sometimes, things tend to fall apart exactly when we want nothing to go wrong. The best examples of this phenomenon are weddings. A bride always wishes to look her best in her pre wedding photo shoots, wedding events and wedding photos. Our patient Mrs Rupali Chavan also had the same dream to look her best in her wedding lehenga. However, one particular day when she was shopping for the most important event of her life, she accidentally stumbled upon the footpath, fell on the face and broke her four front teeth.

This was just one month before her wedding and she was not ready to get married with those broken teeth at all. She visited us with eyes full of hope that we will be able to give her a photogenic smile before her wedding and we were not willing to disappoint her at all. She had certain requests. Firstly, she did not want to wear something which would keep her in the fear that it can fall off any moment. So she wanted a comparatively fixed option. Secondly, she did not want to be in the middle of an ongoing treatment during her wedding as she feared it could cause her pain or discomfort during her ceremony. We hence decided to go ahead with a ‘fast forward’ treatment for her which suits all her requirements. Even though the treatment method would’ve been a little ‘out of the books’, it would be perfect for giving our patient what she desires in her time constraint, which has always been our specialty. We saved all her teeth no matter how badly they were broken and performed painless root canal treatment for all four of them in one single sitting. Over the root canal treated teeth, we gave her ceramic crowns which made her smile look prettier than ever. The whole procedure was completed in just 18 days. The bride to be was tremendously elated with the results. If we quote her own words, she told us “If it weren’t for this accident, I wouldn’t have got such a beautiful smile.” She even came to show us her wedding pictures later and she was looking amazing. More importantly, she was looking extremely happy and stress free in them. It was nothing less than our absolute pleasure to make the most memorable day of her life even more special!

Ceramic Crown

Apart from pain, another complaint which frequently brings patients to a dental clinic is food getting stuck between teeth while eating. This can be the sign of a deep cavity in their teeth. Patients generally do not consider this as an emergency and neglect it for very long. A patient visited the clinic with a similar complaint of food getting stuck between their teeth since 6 months. On examination, it was found out that patient had got a deep cavity in his tooth by now.

Root canal treatment was performed for the affected tooth and a ceramic crown was cemented over it. The advantage of using a ceramic crown was that minimum trimming of tooth structure was required. In addition to this, the ceramic crown is very strong, highly aesthetic and looks absolutely natural in the patient’s mouth. Even the space between the patient’s teeth was closed completely, so that no food gets stuck over there allowing him to have all the lip smacking foods that he wants without any discomfort.

Mr Devidas Baikar is a 40 year old government employ who is the manager in the Electricity Board in Maharashtra Govt. He has had a gap in his teeth since childhood and also had teeth alignment issues. He had been to many dentists who had suggested braces treatment for the same when he was younger. However, he did not get the braces done for many years which resulted in a number of associated dental issues. The top layer of his teeth had worn off due to improper biting pressure resulting from the misalignment. The gap which had always existed in his teeth also increased with time which eventually affected his speech as well.

FULL MOUTH REHABILITATION

Sometimes when patients have multiple missing teeth in their dental arch, it can increase the load on the remaining teeth or tooth prosthesis causing them to fail or get damaged. In these cases, it becomes very important to do a ‘Full Mouth Rehabilitation’ taking in view all the missing teeth as well as the condition of the previously done restorations and the remaining teeth. A similar patient visited us with the chief complaint of not being able to bite and chew her food.

On careful examination, we observed that she had multiple old metal-based ceramic crowns in her teeth on both sides with chipped off ceramic layer and exposed metal layer. She had a few missing teeth as well. We were able to conclude that she had an unstable bite which made her unable to chew food from both sides causing all the pressure to come over the front teeth. We repeated the cap procedure for all remaining teeth to maintain their height, in turn maintaining the balance of the bite plain. Though dental implants would have been the best replacement for the missing teeth, the patient opted for an inexpensive option at that moment in the form of dentures. It can always be replaced with dental implants in the future if required.

Deep Hypoplasia

One of the major concerns of the women, who just had their menopause or are in the age group between 40 to 50 years, is that they face a lot of hormonal changes. We get many such patients who have issues because of these hormonal changes which may affect their teeth. They may either complain of black/brown discoloration of teeth or sudden spacing between teeth which wasn’t present before. Sometimes patients come up with enamel defects which are present since childhood. It is a general observation that most of these patients are from cities which have high fluoride content in the water supply.

As the patients have been consuming the water since childhood, they frequently have yellow spots on their teeth. In all these cases, a treatment known as Ceramic Laminates can be done. We can think of this as a lamination of teeth similar to laminating a new phone. The defective enamel is removed and remaining portion is laminated with the help of ceramics. Likewise, the shape, color and quality of enamel can be altered so that the tooth may last for another 20 – 30 years. The material used for Ceramic laminates is quite long lasting and hence, you may have to get it done only once in a lifetime. It gives a very aesthetic look to the teeth and enhances the patient’ smile multiple folds. It is also an excellent treatment for teeth whitening in permanent teeth. As a general observation, women are quite conscious about how they look. They tend to put in a lot of effort to make their face look flawless with the help of skincare products and make up. But usually, they ignore their teeth amidst everything else. If you actually look at it, your teeth are the real beauty spot of your face as they can make or break your look by affecting your most beautiful asset, your SMILE! Ceramic laminates is an excellent treatment which can help achieve the smile which will perfectly complement your beautiful face to give them an overall makeover. We have had NRI patients and have done their treatment within 3 days. So within 3 days, you can expect us to enhance your smiles and in turn enhance your overall personalities. From being under confident to show their teeth in public to being a confident person with a beautiful wide smile! One of our patients had told us about her experience after getting her Ceramic laminates treatment done that earlier she used to be embarrassed to look at herself, but now she just couldn’t take her eyes off from her own smile. This is the kind of confidence upliftment that we could create for her with our Ceramic laminates treatment. We will be looking forward to being able to do that for you as well.

INLAY

We all want options, whether it’s about shopping for a dress, picking a holiday destination, choosing a career, or even in case of dental treatment. When you visit your dentist with a decayed or fractured tooth, you want to know about all the different ways and techniques which can be used to get your tooth treated. We at our clinic want our patients to be aware of everything that can be done to treat them and choose from a variety of options.

Apart from the much heard composite fillings, one restorative option that is frequently practised in our clinic but you may be comparatively unaware of is Inlay. A dental inlay is a mould of your missing tooth structure which is fabricated outside the mouth. It is different from the crown that we place on your tooth after an RCT as an inlay does not cover the whole tooth but only covers the part which has been compromised because of the decay. If your decay is not large enough for the need of an rct but also not small enough for a composite filling to sustain, inlay restorations can be the exact saviour for you. One of the many advantages that this technique brings to the table is that it has a greater strength compared to conventional composite fillings. It is also visually very appealing. The procedure is also absolutely painless, and the best part is that it looks as good as a completely natural tooth. So if you are swift enough to identify your decay or if you are an intelligent person who likes to get a frequent dental check-up done, we can help you retain your decayed tooth and give you a beautiful smile with the help of our Dental Inlay Restoration.

FULL MOUTH REHABILITATION

Mr Prabhakar Srivastava has been one of our most distinguished clients. He used to be the Chairman of a shipping company. He had always lived his life to the fullest and was certain to continue living exuberantly even in his retirement years. However, at the age of 74 years, he started experiencing a lot of dental issues. He had trouble in chewing his food and he also wished to have a youthful appearance to his smile and face. He also did not want to compromise on any food item just because of his age or his teeth and he wanted to enjoy everything in his life just the way he used to when sailing on his ships. Earlier, he used to enjoy a variety of foods from difference countries.

But now due to the condition of his teeth, he was unable to enjoy even the basic food items. The food used to get stuck between the spaces of his teeth. He had tried to get some treatments done for the same previously as well, but they couldn’t last very long as they were not planned properly keeping in mind his long term health. When Mr Prabhakar came to us with his concerns, we prioritised his long term health as well as his aesthetic demands and decided on a treatment known as “Full Mouth Rehabilitation” to solve all of his concerns at once. In FMR, we plan the whole mouth’s treatment in such a way that we are able to save maximum number of natural teeth, and the treatment can last for years together, maybe a decade or more. It comprises of a number of treatments such as root canal treatments wherever required, cap placement on all teeth.
Each root canal was completed only in a single sitting and the caps placed were full ceramic zirconia caps from 3M, which is undoubtedly one of the strongest and superbly aesthetic choices. These are especially designed for patients who love non vegetarian foods and require a greater strength for chewing their food. It is a once in a lifetime procedure to place this cap as once placed, it can sustain a surprisingly large amount of force and last for a very long time. All this was possible while preserving his own natural teeth as no teeth were removed and replaced. No implants or surgeries were required in the Full Mouth Rehabilitation procedure resulting in a very convenient and pocket friendly treatment. The cost may vary according to the cap selected by the patients. On completion of the treatment, the patient had got his youthful smile back, and moreover he could now peacefully enjoy all his favourite food items again. Now, he never had to worry about how his teeth looked, or what foods to have and what not to have. He could enjoy all his parties and public gatherings without the fear of his teeth getting broken or caps falling off, and he could even forget about using a tooth pick in public as there was no issue of food getting stuck. We were glad to be able to give Mr Prabhakar his joyous life back and we would be happy to help you with the same too!
